MCS Raise £500 for BLISS in Northampton at Sol Central

The Medieval Combat Society together with their friends from the Companions of the Crow performed a show at the Sol Central, Northampton and donated the proceeds of the event to the charity for premature children, BLISS.

Throughout the day visitors to Sol Central were entertained with knights in battle, medieval dancing accompanied by live medieval music, archery displays with a chance to even have a go at archery and shoot their own arrows. Knights using swords, axes and maces wearing heavy armour of plate and ring mail fought in tournaments battling each other.

Medieval jesters performed fire eating, juggling and stilt walking, as well as accompanying the mounted knight around town. The medieval town crier was announced by trumpet from the herald telling all those in the town centre about the Medieval day in Sol Central.

BLISS

One in eight babies is born premature or sick - that's 80,000 babies every year. Around 17,000 of these babies need intensive care and the figure is rising.

BLISS was established 27 years ago, and is the only national organization dedicated to working for special care babies and their families. Since then over £22 million has been raised towards our work helping babies born too soon, too small or too sick to cope on their own.

Whilst advances in technology have resulted in more babies surviving there are chronic shortages of specialist nurses to provide the care. Some mothers and babies are transported hundreds of miles just to find a cot in a neonatal unit.

We are committed to improving the conditions facing newborn babies by:

Supporting parents practically and emotionally – to help them become effective carers of their babies and to make confident and informed decisions.

Promoting new developments and innovations in care by supporting health professional development and clinical innovation, as well as helping the spread of good practice throughout the neonatal sector.

Campaigning for change within government, parliament and other influential groups and raising awareness of the issues affecting premature babies.
