Mead is an alcoholic drink made from fermented honey. It comes in several forms, sometimes as an ale, a wine, or fortified with spirits. Mead beverages can be found at most reenactment events. Thought to be the oldest alcoholic drink and claimed to have restorative and aphrodisiac properties. The ancient Greeks brewed mead, as did the Celts in Britain. The term honeymoon may come from the drinking of mead for the length of a whole moon to bring about a fruitful marriage.
